  This church preaches the whole Bible as it was to men as they are. This church is a Bible believing, gospel preaching, soul winning, go getting, fired up for the Lord, friendly church. Everyone is welcome. The preaching is the best I have ever heard, preaching the whole Bible, with applications to every type of person. Great children's and teen ministry and a fantastic Senior Citizens outreach group. A family oriented church with resources and opportunities to serve the Lord for everyone.There is something for everyone to do and love. If you want to attend a church who preaches the Bible and you will feel at home with God's people, Heartland Baptist Church is the place for you.

  It is true that this is really the only fundamentalist church in town. The people seem very friendly and the music was great. They sung mostly hymns and I saw a good mix of ages. Most people were wearing nice dress clothes but I did see a few wearing casual wear. This church seemed not nearly as legalistic as is common among independent baptist churches. I have no idea what that one reviewer was talking about with "gimmicks". I saw no "gimmicks" at HBC. The Sunday school teacher was a great guy. He seemed to really know his stuff. He is also the "care pastor" at HBC. The pastors I met were very friendly and knowledgeable. Although I have to say that I didn't like the head pastor nearly as much. It seems he is educated but doesn't come across that way and is VERY opinionated. I heard him say during the service that he has all the big doctrines down and never questions them any more. This is very dangerous! He did not come off as being "humble" as another reviewer put it. He kept bragging about his education and his previous "million dollar business" before becoming a pastor. The Bible is preached at HBC and that is a big plus. They are not afraid to tell it like it is. Yet when I visited I heard the main pastor tell some of his preferences and pass them off as the "biblical teaching". I would recommend this church overall though. The people were great and God's word is taught. Just be very selective and check out what the pastor says. Be sure to go home and do some reading before just accepting what is taught. I have corresponded with the pastor a few times regarding his teaching. He seemed willing to discuss it to a certain point. He is not willing to spend a lot of time on an issue though. He tells you what he thinks but not what others might think. He doesn't always tell you why and his scripture "proof texts" don't always show what he thinks they do. People are great and other pastors are too. HBC is a good place (at least the few times I have visited).

  When I came to central Iowa to go to school, I found a great church home in Heartland Baptist Church. The things I appreciate most are its love for people, its emphasis on sound doctrine and a literal interpretation of Scripture, a big emphasis on evangelism, several ministry opportunities for people of all ages, and its commitment to glorifying God in a dark world.

  Great people. Uplifting music. Biblical preaching. Pastor is great. New building is wonderful! Racially dynamic church.
